Born high in the rocky mountains, our distillery sits on top of Miners Mesa in the Artisans Point District of Black Hawk, Colorado at 8650 feet in elevation. Here we work day and night to craft spirits worthy of our incredible mountain location, using 100% Colorado grains and water from some of the highest peaks.
Our 1859 products are a specially crafted line of products from Rick Thomas Distillery with the goal of expanding the type of products available from our distillery. We find that our products are perfect to be enjoyed on the mountain with your favorite winter sports, in a warm cabin with friends, or on any adventure you might find yourself on. Declan Watts, the Master Distiller, has studied the art and science of making whiskey at Colorado State University in their Fermentation Science and Technology program, as well as studied distillation at the Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, the home of The Institute of Brewing & Distilling.

Gamay
Harvested from Balmoral vineyard (900m elevation) on 6th April. Following a cold soak (whether we liked it or not, it was chilly by April in Orange!), we fermented in open top vessels. Hand plunged once per day; the electric colour developed beautifully. No new oak was used to capture the vibrancy of noveau Gamay. Lightly filtered and bottled in October 2022.

Gee Gee
Selected from organically certified Pinot Gris from Annangrove Park AP2 at 700m, and our Gewürztraminer from Balmoral B1 at 900m. The Pinot Gris was hand-picked on the 12th of February from 6.30am. The Gewürztraminer was hand-picked on the 6th of March. Placed into slotted half tone bins and taken directly to the winery these whole bunches were then moved into open fermenters. Wild fermentation started while the grapes were fully intact. After 18 days the carbonic maceration was finished and the fruit was gently pressed into stainless steel tanks where Lees were stirred through fortnightly for 3 months to increase the mouthfeel.

Selected from our organically certified Pinot Noir and Gamay blocks from Annangrove Park AP13 at 700m, and Balmoral at 900m, the Pinot Noir was hand-picked on the 8th of March 2022 from 6.30am, and the Gamay on the 6th of April 2022. Placed into half-tonne slotted bins, taken directly to the winery. These
whole bunches were placed into open fermenters and wild fermentation started while the grapes were fully intact. After 15 days the carbonic maceration was finished and the fruit was gently pressed into stainless steel tanks with lees stirred for 4 months to increase the mouthfeel. The wine was passed through a rock filter prior to bottling.

Deep red color. Aromas of red fruits (raspberry, blackcurrent) and flowers (violet). The palate is full, rich and ample; nicely concentrated. Long & fresh finish.

Mordoree Tavel Rose La Dame Rousse
Mordoree’s Tavel Rose La Dame Rousse is produced from organically and biodynamically grown vineyards, and is a beautiful blend of three terroirs: galets roules (cobblestones), flat white limestones and sandy soils.
A lovely color and fruity aromas of strawberry, cherry, redcurrant, pink grapefruit and tangerine combine with floral scents and rose fragrance. Fresh, round and smooth in the mouth.

Mordoree La Remise de la Mordoree Rouge
La Remise de la Mordoree represents Mordoree’s signature quality at an affordable price.
Deep red color. Aromas of red & black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant) and flowers (violet, peony). Nice mouthfeel & freshness. With its exceptional resistance to oxidation (due to Marselan), this wine will remain pleasant for a long time after opening the bottle.

Deep purple color. Red fresh berry fruit nuances. The palate has medium body with moderate tannic structure. Rounded with a fleshly palate and a finish with a ripe hint of spiciness. Organic and Vegan.
